About the Desired Results access Project

The Desired Results System is an accountability initiative of the California Department of Education (CDE) designed to evaluate the effectiveness of its child development and early childhood special education services and programs. The Desired Results access Project specifically addresses the early childhood special education component of the Desired Results initiative. Funded by CDE’s Special Education Division, the Project assists California’s preschool special education community in meeting the provisions of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) related to child progress outcomes and the participation of preschool children with IEPs in statewide assessment activities. The Desired Results access Project works under the direction of the Special Education Division to support special educators, administrators, and families in understanding, implementing, and benefiting from California’s Desired Results assessment system.

The Project’s primary activities for 2007-08 will include:

  • Conducting further research on the tools for assessing the progress of preschool-age children (3, 4, and 5 years old) with IEPs.
  • Producing new guidance and training materials, web-based resources, and other materials that will support Special Education Local Plan Areas (SELPAS), school districts, preschool special educators, and others to build local capacity to implement the DRDP assessment system.
  • Enhancing and expanding the (SEDRS), the statewide DRDP data reporting system for preschool special education.
  • Assisting the preschool special education community in implementing California’s State Performance Plan that is required by the federal Office of Special Education Programs.
  • Continuing to work collaboratively with CDE’s Child Development Division and other state and national initiatives to continue working on the refinement of the DRDP instruments and the integration of California’s Preschool Foundations with the DRDP assessment system.

The Desired Results access Project – A Special Project of the Napa County Office of Education is funded by the California Department of Education (CDE), Special Education Division (Contract #CN077059) to assist the CDE with developing and putting into place a system to assess the progress of California’s preschool children with disabilities.
