Clarification of the Revised DRDP access Information Page
(Fall 2011)
There have been a number of questions about the revised DRDP access Information Page. Below are answers to some of the most frequently asked questions.
| Item | Question | Clarification |
|---|---|---|
| 7) Is this child an English Learner? | How do we determine if a child is an English Learner? | You may ask the family about the child's home language, and along with your professional judgment, determine if a child is learning English as a second language. Currently there is not an assessment for preschool age children to identify English Learners. |
| 8) If yes, check up to three. | If the child is not an English Learner, how do we fill out this question about the home language? | If English is the home language, leave number 8 blank. |
| 9) Was the child assessed by someone knowledgeable of his/her home language? | How do we answer this? | If you gather observations conducted by someone who knows the child well and speaks with him/her in the home language, mark "Yes". |
| 14) District | What does "District" refer to? | "District" refers to the school district providing preschool special education services to the child. |
| 15) Name of person completing the assessment | Whose name goes in this box? | The primary special education service provider should complete the DRDP access assessment for each child served with an IEP, so the special educator's name is filled in. This could be an early childhood special education teacher or related service provider such as a Speech and Language Pathologist. |
