Information for Teachers
& Service Providers
Preschool special education teachers and service providers complete the Desired Results Developmental Profile assessment for each preschool-age child with an Individualized Education Program (IEP) for whom they are the primary service provider.
To assess children with the DRDP, you will:
- Complete training (face-to-face and/or online) on how to use the DRDP.
- Observe children over time to complete the assessment in the fall and spring.
- Collaborate with other service providers and families in gathering DRDP data.
- Submit a Rating Record and Information Page to your SELPA for every child assessed and maintain copies of all records.
Beginning September 1, 2009 all new preschool-age children with IEPs will be assessed using only DRDP access.
This change does not affect preschool-age children with IEPs who were assessed prior to September 1, 2009; these children will continue to be assessed with the same instrument that was previously used, whether the DRDP access or the DRDP-R.
From the DRDP Instruments section, you may easily access all of the materials you need to conduct the DRDP Assessment including:
- DRDP manuals
- Information Page/Rating Records
- The User’s Guide for the DRDP Instruments
You may also access helpful information in the Guidance section such as The Guide to the Developmental Sequences of the DRDP access that describes the developmental sequences, by age group, that make up the Indicators and Measures of the DRDP access. The guide will help you build a solid understanding of the instrument, accurately rate the Measures, and explain a child’s current development to parents and other providers.
The Guidance section also includes information for assessing children with disabilities who are English Learners and ideas for assisting Speech and Language Pathologists in completing the DRDP.
Please visit our Toolbox for assessors, where you will find helpful resources such as Rating Booklets that can be used as portfolios, Mini-Measures to aid observations throughout the day, and At-A-Glance or Wall-Chart versions of the DRDP Measures.
