Important Change
in the Desired Results Developmental
Profile Assessment Instruments
Used for Preschool Special Education
New Policy Beginning September 1, 2011
From the California Department of Education, Special Education Division
Beginning September 1, 2011 all preschool-age children with Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) will be assessed using only the Desired Results Developmental Profile (DRDP) access assessment instrument. The Desired Results Developmental Profile –Revised (DRDP-R) assessment instrument will no longer be used.
Why this Change
- The California Department of Education (CDE), Special Education Division (SED) has phased out the use of the DRDP-R. We will no longer be collecting ratings from the DRDP-R.
- CDE, Child Development Division (CDD) uses only the DRDP 2010 assessment instruments for infants, toddlers, and preschoolers.
- The DRDP-PS 2010 was not calibrated with preschool-aged children with disabilities. Therefore, the DRDP-PS 2010 cannot be used for mandatory federal reporting for preschool special education for Indicator 7: Preschool Assessment, for the Annual Performance Report (APR).
Specific Guidelines
- As of September 1, 2011 all preschool-aged children (not in kindergarten), receiving special education services, will be assessed using the DRDP access assessment instrument.
- Only the DRDP access ratings will be accepted in the reporting systems.
IEP Team Responsibilities Beginning September 1, 2011
- Beginning September 1, 2011, IEP teams will indicate that the child will be assessed with the DRDP access assessment instrument.
- IEP teams will continue to document the adaptations that each child uses on a daily basis and that will be used when completing the DRDP access assessment instrument.
