If you missed the training session!
Beginning in February 2007, preschool children in California who have Individualized Education Plans (I E Ps) will participate in the Desired Results Developmental Profile (DRDP) assessment system. Primary I E P service providers (e.g. credentialed classroom special education teachers, speech therapists, and other itinerant staff) are responsible for completing the Preschool Desired Results Developmental Profiles for Children with I E Ps or the Desired Results Developmental Profile access and reporting data twice a year for each child.
To support assessors, approximately 90 day-long training sessions were scheduled throughout California between January and March, 2007 to train all primary I E P service providers how to use the Preschool Desired Results Developmental Profiles for Children with I E Ps and the Desired Results Developmental Profile access. Service providers who were not able to attend one of these sessions will need to learn how to complete the assessments. Fortunately, there is a wealth of resources available to assist assessors in increasing their competence and confidence with the DRDP assessments. The steps below should provide assistance:
1. Obtain a Copy of the Materials
Obtain the full set of the Toolkit materials that were distributed at the Desired Results access Rollout Training sessions. These include:Preschool Desired Results Developmental Profiles for Children with I E Ps (PS DRDP-R)
- Manual
- Booklet
- Rating Record/Information Page
Desired Results Developmental Profile access (DRDP access)
- Manual
- Booklet
- Rating Record/Information Page

Guidance for I E P Teams
These materials were included as both print documents and digital files on the CD-ROM in the DRDP access Tool Kit. You can obtain these materials in two ways:
a. Ask an administrator or colleague who attended the training to lend or duplicate for you the CD-ROM or print you a set of the materials.
b. Print and/or download the materials from the Assessors section of the Desired Results access Project web site at: www.draccess.org
2. Get to Know the Instruments
- Read the Guide to Using the Preschool Desired Results Developmental Profiles for Children with I E Ps and the Desired Results Developmental Profile access with the two Manuals open so you can follow along and refer to them.
- Ask a colleague who attended the training to go over the instruments with you.
- In the Rollout Training Handout, take particular note of:
- Navigation Map, pp. 6–9
- Similarities and Differences Table, p. 10
3. Learn How to Collect Documentation
- Review the section on “Step A: Collect Documentation” on pp. 13-16 of the Guide to Using the Preschool Desired Results Developmental Profiles for Children with I E Ps and the Desired Results Developmental Profile access.
- Review the section on “Sources of Information” on p. 12 of the Rollout Training Handout.
4. Learn How to Rate the Measures

- Review the pages 16-20 of the Guide to Using the Preschool Desired Results Developmental Profiles for Children with I E Ps and the Desired Results Developmental Profile access.
- Become familiar with the Rating Booklets and Rating Records for both instruments.
- Practice navigating the instruments and rating measures!! Think of a child who you know very well and have the opportunity to observe. On the instrument that you think would be most appropriate for that child, rate all of the measures within one Indicator. Repeat this exercise with a different child on the other instrument.
5. Learn How to Finalize the Assessment
- Review the Information Page and Rating Record for each of the two instruments.
- Read the Instructions” sections of the manuals of both instruments.
